Polly Gowers of charity search engine Everyclick, won the newly created Ethical Entrepreneur Award for businesses running for less than three years.
"This caps an amazing two years," said Polly Gowers. "Winning this WEBA helps highlight that making a small change to your daily routine can make massive difference to the cause you care about."
"We support all charities and the most exciting thing for us is receiving letters from, for example, PTAs commenting on how they have 17 parents using the search engine and that they've raised £100 this month. They explain to us just what that money means to them. It makes us realise just what a powerful fundraising facility Everyclick is, particularly to the smaller charities."
The Awards are open for women who run or own a business that's based on sound ethical principles. They celebrate the women who are running the nation's best ethical businesses.
Everyclick was voted the Hottest New Start Up at The Imperative Digital Awards. Four organisations were nominated for the award which is targeted at young growing companies cutting a swathe through the digital market. Everyclick secured the vote of expert judges and the readers of Netimperative and received the award at the Guanabara nightclub in London.
In the words of the judges "Everyclick has harnessed the power of the Web to help good causes, at no expense to the charities or donors involved."
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Daily Telegraph Business Personality award is about more than recognising business acumen. They are looking for someone who has put time and effort into the community as well.
The contribution made by business leaders to the British economy and to their local communities and causes has been well documented and supported by the Telegraph Group and the master watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Between now and mid-September, The Daily Telegraph will profile people who, for instance, leave the comfort zone of a salaried position to start out on their own, overcome disabilities or give their money and time to working with charities and local communities. What counts is that the personalities have made a real contribution in time rather that donating money, albeit in a most generous manner.
Now in their sixth year, the HSBC Start Up Stars is open to all businesses less than three years old.
Since its inception, Start Up Stars has demonstrated in the most powerful way that success comes in all shapes and sizes. The Awards are not based purely on profit and turnover, but instead recognize those who have identified an opportunity and used creativity and sound business practice to make it a success.
The 2006 Start Up Stars Awards have been expanded to focus more strongly on the regions and Everyclick Ltd will form a select group of 26 businesses drawn from throughout the UK for national judging.
